Oeschinensee is a turquoise alpine lake in the Bernese Oberland of Switzerland, cradled by sheer cliffs and towering peaks that reflect perfectly in its glassy waters. Surrounded by wildflower meadows in summer and snow-draped slopes in winter, it’s often called one of Switzerland’s most beautiful mountain lakes.
We Hiked up for sunrise which meant starting in the dark from Kandersteg, our headlamps lighting the forest path as the air stays cool and quiet. As we climbed, the first light begins to touch the highest ridges, and by the time we reached the lake, the sky is painted in soft pastels—pinks, oranges, and blues mirrored in the still water. Standing there with no one else around, I caught the scene at its most magical, camera in hand, capturing the stillness before the day’s hikers arrive.
